12 years ago today J & I were sitting in a hospital room playing cards and waiting for something to happen…anything! 12 hours after my water broke and NOTHING! It was worth the wait, N arrived around 4:30 in the afternoon and it has been “pure joy” ever since (except for that time when…. )

OK…..for real now, he was a pretty easy baby, and has grown up to be such a special guy. He is fun to have around, with his sense of humor, quick smile and adventurous spirit. He has a sensitive streak a mile wide and is good at making others feel comfortable. He is loyal to those he cares for, and would defend them to the death if necessary. He loves to make people laugh, and is always trying out a new joke.

He, and all the grand-kids are spending the day with my mom. Actually they all spent the night last night and will make a trip to our local zoo today. It should be a pretty fun way to start out the day.

Just wait until he gets to open his gifts…..He is going to be sOOOO excited! Now mom on the other hand is not so sure that some of the gifts were a great idea, but DAD was VERY determined to win this little disagreement. I’ll fill you in tomorrow on the details.

If you think about it, please say a little prayer for E & I today around 4. He is getting his Staple pulled out, and he has been green every time we have talked about it. I know it isn’t really that big of a deal, but he has such a weak stomach for this kind of thing.

My E……how to best describe him?

  1. Future captain of the DEBATE team?
  2. Those eyes….they get him out of more trouble.
  3. That smile….it goes all the way to his eyes and has melted many a heart.
  4. Teachers pet.
  5. Friend to EVERYONE!
  6. Self imposed crash test dummy or victim of a recent beating?

You should see that boys body right now! Last Thursday he fell off his bike, it sounds like he was launched over the handle bars, and ROLLED and ROLLED and ..(you get the idea) across our cement driveway. He scraped his forehead, BOTH shoulders, one hip, one knee, one elbow and the lower center of his back. Now add to that all the bumps and bruises he has accumulated over the last few weeks and he looks like he got severely beat or run over buy a truck.

Now here’s the fun part…..Yesterday afternoon I left the office at my normal time, stopped at the post office and headed home (my normal routine). As I am leaving the post office parking lot I get a call from J.

J: “Are you almost home yet?”

ME: “No I am about 10 minutes away still, Why?

J: ” I just got a call from N, there is a police officer (trained in paramedics)at our house right now because E got hurt. N is really freaked out, and there is an ambulance on the way to the house.”

I get off with J and call N, he is hysterical saying there is blood everywhere, E hit his head on the corner of the desk, why aren’t you here….etc. I assure him I will be there in less than 7 minutes and to go outside where E cannot here him cry.

When I arrive home and run into the house, I find the kitchen floor COVERED with blood….A. LOT. OF. BLOOD. , some of it looks like it was sprayed around..it kind of has a weird spatter pattern to it. Needless to say I am a little FREAKED out by that! The p.o. has him lying on my couch, a towel under his head, his feet propped up on a pillow, and an oxygen tube in his nose. He is trying to assure me that E is going to be fine but he needs to go the the hospital, meanwhile N is standing be hind me and he is crying loudly. J finally gets home and E is saying he is tired and cold….J says “THAT’S not good”….thanks dearnow I feel much better about the situation. The ambulance FINALLY got there, they load up E & J and head downtown.

Do you want to know what happened next? The PA. cleaned the small 3 point cut, put some numbing med’s on it, and then put a STAPLE in his head. OK see your PCP in 3-5 days to have the staple removed and you are GTG.

I personally think the ambulance was a little overkill, but the bottom line is- he is going to be just fine….the desk on the other hand….that corner will never be quite the same again!

So who ever got the idea to put staples in kids heads anyway?

Summer is for tag team remodeling and de-cluttering. August 14, 2007

At our house summer is about the only time we get to work on all those remodeling projects that I have on my list of “to do’s”. The top priority this summer is E’s bedroom. We started it last summer and got quite a lot done, I am hoping to get it finished in the next month and a half. J cut all the boards for the floor trim and top shelves, I am working on getting them painted so he can do the install work. The other high priority project is for me….I am finally getting an area in the house that is dedicated to my “past times”. It will be in a corner of our finished basement and it is for all my craft things….scrap-booking, sewing, etc….. J installed the tall cabinet already…..boy was that an interesting endeavor. Now as soon as I get the base cabinet painted he can install it and build me an “L” shaped counter top with a drop leaf on one end, in the mean time he should be working on the electrical for all the new lights that need to be installed….there aren’t any in that corner at all right now.

We also have some minor projects that I would like to see get done…..patching a small hole in the basement wall, putting trim around both of the main entryway doors….misc. painting….etc…

It is so nice that J and I work together well….it makes living through projects much easier.

Another thing that is taking up my time has been getting ready for the Garage sale that our church is having….I have been going through closets and drawers and reconsidering all the things that take up “surface” space and make things feel cluttered around the house. I would also like to sort through my Creative Memories inventory and sell a bunch of it that day as well. Wish me luck, I still have a lot of things to go through.
