My E……how to best describe him?
- Future captain of the DEBATE team?
- Those eyes….they get him out of more trouble.
- That smile….it goes all the way to his eyes and has melted many a heart.
- Teachers pet.
- Friend to EVERYONE!
- Self imposed crash test dummy or victim of a recent beating?
You should see that boys body right now! Last Thursday he fell off his bike, it sounds like he was launched over the handle bars, and ROLLED and ROLLED and ..(you get the idea) across our cement driveway. He scraped his forehead, BOTH shoulders, one hip, one knee, one elbow and the lower center of his back. Now add to that all the bumps and bruises he has accumulated over the last few weeks and he looks like he got severely beat or run over buy a truck.
Now here’s the fun part…..Yesterday afternoon I left the office at my normal time, stopped at the post office and headed home (my normal routine). As I am leaving the post office parking lot I get a call from J.
J: “Are you almost home yet?”
ME: “No I am about 10 minutes away still, Why?
J: ” I just got a call from N, there is a police officer (trained in paramedics)at our house right now because E got hurt. N is really freaked out, and there is an ambulance on the way to the house.”
I get off with J and call N, he is hysterical saying there is blood everywhere, E hit his head on the corner of the desk, why aren’t you here….etc. I assure him I will be there in less than 7 minutes and to go outside where E cannot here him cry.
When I arrive home and run into the house, I find the kitchen floor COVERED with blood….A. LOT. OF. BLOOD. , some of it looks like it was sprayed around..it kind of has a weird spatter pattern to it. Needless to say I am a little FREAKED out by that! The p.o. has him lying on my couch, a towel under his head, his feet propped up on a pillow, and an oxygen tube in his nose. He is trying to assure me that E is going to be fine but he needs to go the the hospital, meanwhile N is standing be hind me and he is crying loudly. J finally gets home and E is saying he is tired and cold….J says “THAT’S not good”….thanks dear…now I feel much better about the situation. The ambulance FINALLY got there, they load up E & J and head downtown.
Do you want to know what happened next? The PA. cleaned the small 3 point cut, put some numbing med’s on it, and then put a STAPLE in his head. OK see your PCP in 3-5 days to have the staple removed and you are GTG.
I personally think the ambulance was a little overkill, but the bottom line is- he is going to be just fine….the desk on the other hand….that corner will never be quite the same again!
So who ever got the idea to put staples in kids heads anyway?

I think that you are due for a break. Tell Elijah his poor little body won’t take much more abuse. There’s not enough of him there to take much of a beating.
